Continuing Education Opportunities
The Western Iowa Synod, along with the ELCA, has high standards for its professional ministers. A fundamental requirement for these ministers is a thorough grounding in the Christian faith and Holy Scripture that is always in the process of being renewed. Coupled with our faith is the need for an understanding of the world in which ministry must take place. In addition to these fundamentals is the need to grow in competence and skills in order to be faithful in discipleship. As is true in many other occupations, continuing education is the way the professional minister in the church sharpens skills already employed, acquires new skills and experiences personal growth for a more effective ministry.

"Preaching as Moral Imagination"
When: May 13-17, 2019
Where: Minneapolis, MN
Once upon a time, preachers and churches had a primary role in shaping the moral imagination of a community, a society, even a nation. What happened? “Preaching As Moral Imagination” will inspire and encourage preachers to embrace once again their identity as those called to give voice to God’s vision of goodness and mercy, to recover and reimagine leadership in the church that seeks justice for all. Be inspired by God’s Word proclaimed by some of the nation’s finest ministers and teachers. Experience the fellowship of hundreds of preachers. Learn and worship in an atmosphere that’s dynamic, friendly, nurturing, and prophetic. Come renew, refresh, and recharge your spirit. Come and tap into God’s moral imagination for the sake of the world God loves.

SPANISH LANGUAGE AND HISPANIC MINISTRY
May 26th - 31st and June 9th - 13th
Seminary of the Southwest, Austin TX
“I came to this experience knowing NO Spanish other than “gracias” and “si.” Although I still have a lot of work to do on Spanish vocabulary this experience helped me learn how to pronounce Spanish vowels, consonants and words. Maybe most important, I believe that (using a Spanish language worship book) I could now lead a worship service in Spanish, and even understand most of what is being said.” Bishop Steve Delzer, Southeastern Minnesota Synod, ELCA.
