Administrative Assistants Spring Fling Gathering
When: Wednesday, April 19th
Registration begins at 9:00 am and programing at 9:30 am
Where: Western Iowa Synod Office, 318 E Fifth St, Storm Lake
Cost: $20/person if registered and paid by April 10th
$25/person after April 10th
This is a day set aside for congregational administrative assistants to gather together for a time of learning, networking, fellowship, pampering and fun!! Every Administrative Assistant deserves some time for this!! We hope you will make plans to join us or arrange for your congregation's secretary to join us on the 19th. There is an event flier below with a paper registration that can be sent in with payment, or you can register online and send in your payment. As people who work with people, we know the importance of relationships. We also know that healthy relationships depend upon clear and respectful boundaries. Rostered ministers especially need thoughtful and consistent training around boundaries because of the variety of their relationships.
Boundary trainings are required for rostered leaders once every three years. If you have not attended one in the last three years please plan on attending this event.

Rostered Minister's Preassembly Gathering
When: Friday, June 9th
Time: 9:30 am - approx. 2:00 pm (lunch included, but must pre-register on assembly registration form)
Where: Augustana Lutheran Church, 600 Court St., Sioux City (within walking distance of the convention center)
All rostered leaders are encouraged to make their best effort to attend this event and the synod assembly!!

Rostered Ministers Gathering
Mark your calendars for Aug. 7-10, 2017, when the ELCA will host its first ever Rostered Ministers Gathering in Atlanta. This will be an opportunity for our Rostered Ministers to assemble for worship, education, and fellowship. We will gather under the theme, “On the Way ... Together,” using the Emmaus Road story (Luke 24:13-35) to guide our time together. More info here... or keep up to date via Facebook!

SAVE THE DATE! - Fall Theological Conference
The 2017 Tri-Synodical Fall Conference for rostered leaders will be held at the Sheraton, West Des Moines from September 24-26, 2017. Speakers Anna Madsen and Bishop Guy Erwin will address the: the theme “The Reformation: What’s at Stake? Then and Now.” Bishop Elizabeth Eaton will also be in attendance for a presentation and to preach and preside at the Monday evening communion service. Registration will be available on-line beginning July 1.

Retirement Planning from Portico Benefits
For Singles - We’ve heard from many of our single plan members that you want more information about retirement planning that relates specifically to you. Join us as we explore the challenges and opportunities of retiring as a single person. We’ll discuss some specific areas of retirement planning where singles differ from their married counterparts. We’ll hear from a panel of retired, single plan members about their current experiences in retirement – what they did well in planning and what they wish they would have done better.
OR Turning 65. Join us as we explore the options you’ll have and the steps you’ll need to take as you approach age 65. We’ll take a deep dive into the world of Medicare and the Medicare Supplement options available to you through Portico’s ELCA Medicare-Primary health coverage. We’ll discuss the action steps you’ll need to take – whether you’ll be retired or still in active ministry when you turn 65. Throughout the session, we’ll break each topic down into bite-sized, manageable pieces.
Luther College, Decorah, Iowa - June 11-14, 2017
High school youth from ELCA congregations are invited to the Wholly Iowa Youth Leadership Discipling Event June 11-14 at Luther College in Decorah. This annual camp is designed to help high school youth learn how to become future leaders of the church. WIYLDE offers three tracks designed to give in-depth knowledge and training on a particular type of leadership. The teens will meet in small groups to discuss and put into action what they learn.
The three tracks are:
Worship Leadership — Learn the basics of Lutheran worship and liturgy and how to become a worship assistant.
Share Your Faith — Discover how to share your personal faith story in many different ways, and learn how to write and lead a Bible study.
You Can Do Ministry — Learn what your spiritual gifts are and how you can use those gifts to do ministry now and in the future. More info here!
Join us Oct. 27-28 for a Reformation Festival featuring speakers and workshops addressing key Reformation themes in theology and music.
Attend a performance on Friday evening by the National Lutheran Choir of "Holy Spirit Mass," a new choral work commissioned for the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation, at Ted Mann Concert Hall in Minneapolis. Norwegian composer Kim André Arnesen has been commissioned to write this significant new work.
On Saturday afternoon, the festival will conclude with a worship service at Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton will preach and local church choirs will sing.
