Synod Mission Team
Rev. Rodger Prois, Bishop
Rodger Prois was elected bishop of the synod and installed into the office in 2013.
Bishop Prois has primary responsibility for the ministry of Word and Sacrament in this synod and its congregations, providing pastoral care and leadership for this synod, its congregations, its ordained ministers and other rostered leaders. The synod bishop ordains approved candidates for ministry as well as consecrates and commissions lay rostered leaders. The bishop is the chief ecumenical officer of the synod. He exercises leadership in the mission of this church, including oversight of the synod's companion synod relationships with the Southern Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chile. While seeking to preserve the unity of the Church, the bishop oversees and administers the work of the synod.

Rev. Lorna Halaas, Director of Missional Leadership
Pastor Lorna Halaas was called to synod leadership team as Director of Missional Leadership and assistant to the bishop in July 2013. Pastor Halaas is call process coordinator, staff support to the Board for Ministry and shares staff responsibility for pastoral care and leadership development for congregations and rostered leaders. She is also the synod's Lay School Coordinator.

Rev. Jeff Ungs, Director of Evangelical Mission and Assistant to the Bishop
Pr. Jeff Ungs, Director of Evangelical Mission and Assistant to the Bishop, was called to the synod team in 2013. He works primarily in the areas of mission development, redevelopment and renewal of congregations, evangelism, Church of the Damascus Road, Lutheran Men in Mission, Disability Awareness, Lutheran Services of Iowa, and Lutheran Disaster Response.

Cynthia Wells, Director of Global Mission
Cynthia Wells, Director of Global Mission, has been on synod staff since April 2002.
Cindy's work focuses on two areas: our companion synod relationships with the Southern Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chile, and Global Mission/Hunger efforts. Within this realm of work, Cindy coordinates and assists in the on-going development of the four partner projects of our companion synod relationship, arranges for the sending and receiving of visitors between the Western Iowa Synod and the Southern Diocese, and coordinates and resources those in companion congregation relationships. Cindy additionally serves with our national church body in the arenas of peace initiatives in the Holy Land, HIV/AIDS, World Hunger and Malaria.

Lynn Egesdal, AiM Administrative Assistant and Faith Formation Coordinator
Lynn Egesdal, administrative assistant to the bishop and youth and family mission coordinator, joined synod leadership team in July 2013. She is coordinator of office operations and staff projects, with particular focus on scheduling and resource needs for Bishop Prois.
Lynn completed her studies to become an Associate in Ministry in the fall of 2013.

Kay Broich, Mission Center Administrator
Kay Broich, Mission Center Administrator, joined the synod staff in November 2006.
As bookkeeper, Kay keeps track of synod financial records, as well as congregational financial statements. Her duties also include hospitality at the synod office.

Julie Cook, Administrative Assistant
Julie Cook, Administrative Assistant, joined the synod team in March of 2016 and is the voice and face of the synod. She is most likely the person you will talk to when you call in and the first person you'll see if you visit the synod office. Julie will assist with hospitality, roster and database updates, and many other administrative duties.
